GARC INTRODUCES TWO NEW BOARD MEMBERS

At the annual membership meeting, the General Membership of the GARC voted unanimously to approve the nominating committee’s recommendation for new board members. Robert Goldberg and Brent Fortson began their term as GARC Directors in July. Existing Board Members include Sandra Landry, President; Wendy Sauley-Simmons; Vice-President, Lynda Sisson, Treasurer and Steve Wallace, Secretary. Directors include Betty Moore and Reid Flanagan. Dr. Robert Hayden is Immediate Past President. The GARC welcomes these two new board members.

goldberg-6508Bob Goldberg is a leader in the important and demanding area of Elder Law and Asset protection. Bob was born in Manhattan, New York City, and grew up across the Hudson River in Paramus, New Jersey. After graduating from high school, Bob received a senatorial appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point where he graduated with Dean’s List honors. After completing active-duty Army service as a helicopter pilot, Bob attended the University of Michigan Law School at Ann Arbor and received his law degree there in 1990. He is a member of the National Association of Elder Law Attorneys and has many years’ experience as a trial attorney.

Bob has specialized in Estate Planning and Elder Law since 1999. He is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and Wealth Counsel. He and his staff have helped over 2,000 families develop comprehensive plans to protect their families and their property, navigate the long-term care maze of Medicare, Medicaid and VA benefits, and guided them through the probate process. Bob speaks often at caregiver conferences and support group meetings for the families of those from Alzheimer ’s disease and Parkinson’s Disease.
Bob has been married to his wife Kimberley since 1995. Kimberley and Bob have two boys, Simon and Seth. When Bob is not busy practicing law, he enjoys reading thrillers and biographies, going to the movies, orienteering, running and watching his boys play tennis.

photo BrentBrent Fortson is a teacher of students with Mild Intellectual Disabilities at Griffin High School. He received his M.Ed. in Special Education from West Georgia University in 2006 and has been teaching students with disabilities at Griffin High School for 14 years. This is his 24th year of teaching.

Along with teaching, Mr. Fortson serves the community as a Minister of Music, at Life Springs Church, Zebulon, GA. He also enjoys serving as Band Booster President for the Pike County Pirate Regiment, Lay Delegate to the North Georgia Conference UMC, Board Member for Life Springs Preschool.

He currently resides in Zebulon with his wife Andrea and their boys; Andrew 20, Matthew 19, and Taylor 15.
